Introduction to Wine Faults detection

We invite you to dip your nose into the wonderful world of stinky wines

Your first step toward understanding what can go wrong in a wine, and how to recognise and respond when it does.

Learn to make sure you’re drinking the real thing — just as the winemaker intended.

Save money and avoid those awkward moments at a restaurant or bar when your glass doesn’t taste the way it should!

What will we cover:

  • An introduction to wine faults: how and when are they created?

  • The difference between faults, taints, and deviations (or flaws in wines)

  • The most common wine faults, so you know how to detect and identify them: Oxidation, Reduction, Volatile Acidity, and the famous Cork Taint

  • Hands-on experience with specially contaminated wines to explore one fault in particular

  • An introduction to the DAF, the "Deductive Approach to Faults," so you can start using a systematic approach to take action when you detect something is not right in a wine

  • A "blind tasting" with a real faulty wine to apply your instincts and your newfound knowledge

  • Best practices to keep wines "as the winemaker intended," so you are not the cause of spoiling wines in the future

Additionally, you will receive:

  • Every participant will receive a voucher of 50 CHF to redeem for any other Wine Faults Academy course during the coming year

  • Free coffee and tea during the break

  • And… we will say cheers with a glass of bubbles during our time for questions, comments, hugs, and goodbyes!
